A young Morecambe Reserve side went down 6-1 on Wednesday to a Manchester City team which included the likes of Carlos Tevez and Owen Hargreaves.
Tevez didn’t waste any time in getting his name in the headlines when he won a penaly in the 8th minute. Joan Roman stepped up and slotted the ball home past Chris Kettings.
On 17 minutes it was 0-2 with Reece Wabara scoring a second goal for the visitors.
Morecambe hit back but were caught on the break by City and Carlos Tevez made it 0-3 with less than 30 minutes on the clock.
Morecambe then won a free kick and, after a scramble in the box Craig Curran made it 1-3 with his first ever goal for the Shrimps.
Omar Elabdellaoui made it 1-4 within 10 minutes of the restart and the game was put to bed when Joan Roman made it 1-5. Roman got his hat trick on 83 minutes to make it 1-6.
In the closing stages of the game Morecambe went close to pulling a goal back but Nail Cowpethwaite’s shot came back off the bar.
In fairness the result flattered City and Morecambe did very well considering they were up again a very experienced team.
