McKenna: Bravery Paid Off

It’s been a long time in coming but Morecambe secured a much needed, and an impressive, win over Bury at the Globe Arena on Saturday afternoon.

We hadn’t won at the home since September and with Bury the opponents at the weekend, and the disappointing run we’ve been on, maybe few expected much but we surprised many with a 1-0 win.

Assistant Ken McKenna felt that the bravery that we showed in changing our system ahead of the game, as well as amending it during it too, paid dividends.

Speaking to the media after the win McKenna said: ‘We were brave before and after the game and it paid off.

‘We changed our system, which was a brave decision in itself and it worked really well as we restricted a good bury side to very little.

‘Then we changed the shape again late in the game and we scored soon after it so everything we did worked and we needed that.’

Kevin Ellison (70) headed home what proved to be the winner 20-minutes from time, he could have and maybe should have added a second but the one was enough to earn an important, and much needed, three-points.

McKenna admitted that it was needed after some criticism in recent weeks, none more so following our FA Cup exit to Dover Athletic.

As tough as it has been he knows that we ‘have got a really honest bunch of lads’ at this clun who will ‘always give their all’ and they did exactly that against one of the favourites for league 2 promotion.
