A Week In The Life Of A Shrimp

I said in last week`s blog if we could get four points from our two games against Burton and Crewe most people would be happy, that`s exactly what we did. A solid home performance against Burton was followed by a massive morale boosting win against Crewe on Monday. I thought we were unlucky against Burton last weekend and on another day (with an unbiased ref) we could have easily come out with all three points. The two goals we scored were crackers and it was nice to see Alessandra get on the score sheet after I think his last few performances have been fantastic! I thought it was also nice to see Gary McDonald score on Saturday because I think he has been a bit of an unsung hero for us in the middle of the park this season and he finally got his reward! Keep it up lads!! That 2-2 draw on Saturday lifted spirits around the Globe but we were still without a win in 8 games as we went to Crewe . I think Ellison returning was a lift for us because he is a great character to have around the place, and didn`t it show on the pitch! It was a cracking finish from him at the back post to give us our first win in eight games and put us back in play off contention. Credit has to go to all the travelling fans as well who sang right the way through the match and spurred the lads on!

January is the time of year when clubs get busy because of the January transfer window. Now this week of course the January transfer window opened for another year and we have already done a few deals. It`s looking like our loan man Charnock is on his way to Fleetwood on a permanent deal. I think that`s a great move for him because he wasn`t getting any first team opportunities with us and a move away might help find the form he had when he joined us. If that deal does go through I wish Kieran Charnock all the best at Fleetwood and look forward to seeing him back at the Globe possibly next season (that`s Fleetwood coming up not us going down!). That is a good deal for us as well because it will free up some money on the wage bill which means we can bring in a new player in an area we need to strengthen in.

Now onto three of our men who have signed new deals this week, Jason Price has signed a contract with us until the end of the season after his performances so far have been great and I think he is a great addition to our attacking force, he is just the type of player we were looking for at the start of the season after Paul Mullin`s retirement. Two other men who have signed new contracts this week are Chris McCready and Kevin Ellison. I think these are two great deals from Jimbo because McCready is very solid at the back and always has been and hopefully will continue to be over the next two years. I think Kevin Ellison as I said before is a great character to have around the place and a class player on the pitch; he scores a lot of goals as well! Long may that continue.

The festive period is now over for another year and we are back to our weekly fixtures. This weekend sees us back at the Globe again against second bottom of the table Northampton . I think this is an ideal game for us at this stage, because we can get a good win at the Globe and hopefully kick start our home form for this season. Northampton are not to be underestimated though now under the management of Aidy Boothroyd are sure to be a tough side to beat, so lets get behind the boys from the first minute to the last and cheer them on to consecutive wins! COME ON YOU REDS!!!!
