Morecambe are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Alex Whitmore in the one nil victory over Grimsby Town at the weekend at the Globe Arena was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Whitmore was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Morecambe defended doggedly as Grimsby Town made the visit to the Globe Arena, restricting the Mariners to few clear-cut opportunities. Whitmore was one of those to impress, helping the Shrimps to a clean sheet in their 1-0 win.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Whitmore for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the points.

Full Team:

Connor Ripley (Oldham Athletic), Alex Whitmore (Morecambe), James Chester (Aston Villa), Cameron Burgess (Bury), Jamie Murphy (Brighton), Josh Wright (Gillingham), David Davis (Birmingham City), Jota (Brentford), Conor McAleny (Oxford United), Billy Sharp (Sheffield United), Nicky Ajose (Swindon Town).

Manager – Paul Cook (Portsmouth).
