The Shrimps were apparently lucky to maintain their 100% League record so far against Oxford United at the Globe Arena last Tuesday.

Against newly-promoted Cambridge United on Saturday, however, the League Leaders didn’t need Lady Luck on their side: they simply needed Paul Mullin IN it.

Boss Jim Bentley handed the 19 year old his League debut after recent promising performances – and a goal – as substitute. And Mullin didn’t disappoint: he scored with a firm header from a left-wing cross by Kevin Ellison when unmarked after just sixteen minutes.

Although Tom Elliot brought the scores level with another header after 54 minutes, Mullin won the game for the visitors with an assured strike with just over an hour played.

The win represents Morecambe’s best-ever start to a League season: they have still to drop a single point and remain at the top of the League Two table. Cambridge, meanwhile, find themselves in seventeenth position.
