Morecambe’s great start to the season saw us dealt a blow with the injury to Laurence Wilson.

He left back, who returned to the club this summer after a successful trial, was injured in the win over Cambridge United with an injury lay-off of some two-months or more on the cards for the 27-year-old?

The full extent of his injury will be known later this week but suspected ligament damage is expected to be confirmed.

Keen to keep the momentum going, after a flying start to the league 2 season, Jim Bentley has told the Visitor that he is working on loan deal to bring in a new left back to soften this blow, but also knows what a blow it is to lose Wilson.

He said: ‘I’m trying to get a left back in to replace him because the initial signs are that it doesn’t look good.

‘It’s a real shame for him because he’s been excellent for us so far this season. I think he’s grown up a bit since he was last with us.

‘He’s got more life experience. He’s got married and had kids and has just come in and been brilliant.’
