Morecambe recorded the surprise result of the weekend in League Two on Saturday stunning Oxford United on their own patch.

The game was action packed from the off and Morecambe wasted no time in taking an early lead. Danny Carlton provided the cross for Craig Curran to head the ball home with his first goal for the first team, he scored Morecambe`s only goal in the reserve defeat to Manchester City in the week, and give Morecambe a third minute lead.

The travelling supporters had only just finished celebrating when, in the 5th minute, Oxford drew level. Asa Hall then fired at shot a goal which could only be parried by Barry Roche and Scott Rendell pounced on the rebound to score the equaliser to make it 1-1 with only 5 minutes played.

On 12 minutes Oxford could have taken the lead but Roche was in form to deny Asa Hall once again to turn the ball over the bar.

Minutes later Kevin Ellison headed wide as he continues his search of League Two`s golden boot.

There were chances for both sides in the rest of the half but neither could capitalise on their chances.

There were obscure scenes before the start of the second half when Chris McCready appeared to throw up on the pitch but thankfully he recovered and was able to complete the game.

The second half was a pretty even affair but once again both sets of players never really showed that cutting edge to take the lead.

It took until the 74th minute for the deadlock to be broken once again when Stuart Drummond headed the ball into the back of the net from an Allesandra corner to restore the Shrimps lead.

Morecambe could have wrapped the game up on 77 minutes but Gary McDonald saw his shot saved by Clarke.

Oxford couldn`t find another goal but came close late on with Roche making a fine save to deny hall for a final time.

Morecambe held on to take the 3 points which leaves us in 12th in 54 points in the table. Up next is Swindon on Good Friday but today`s win will have given the players great confidence going into that game.
