Lady Luck favour Leaders

Morecambe Manager Jim Bentley bemoaned his team’s luck against Bradford City seven days ago, when a suspected handball won the game for the Bantams.

At the time, he said that luck evens itself out over a season and added that the officials can’t award offences they don’t see.

He was honest enough on Tuesday night to admit not only that Morecambe were lucky not to have a penalty awarded against them and goalkeeper Barry Roche sent off but also that Oxford United had played the better football during the game.

But the U’s left with nothing after Kevin Ellison’s third goal in three League games won the game for the Shrimps in the 39th minute.

To rub salt in their wounds, Danny Hylton hit the bar with Roche beaten just before the break and the visitors also had Danny Rose booked for ‘simulation’ after the big Irishman had clearly flattened him with just twelve minutes left to play.

At the end of the match the Shrimps were still on top of League Two; unlucky Oxford found themselves still pointless and in 21st position.
