Morecambe suffered their second away defeat in a few days when they lost 2-1 at Hereford United on Tuesday night.

Boss Sammy McIlroy made two changes from the team that faced Stevenage Stuart Hendrie got his first full start for the Shrimps and Phil Jevons came in for Paul Mullin who dropped to the bench.

In a tight game it was the home side who finally took the lead in the 43rd minute a cross from Kenny Lunt was met by Joe Colbeck who beat Barry Roche in the Morecambe goal to give Hereford the advantage going into the break.

Morecambe got back into the game in the second half when Stuart Drummond equalised for Morecambe. Phil Jevons`s original effort was saved by the Hereford keeper but Drummond was on hand to tap home the rebound and level the scores.

Morecambe then had a couple of chances to take the lead and it looked like the Shrimps could go on to get the winning goal however some poor defending on the hour mark allowed Hereford goal scorer Joe Colbeck to put in a cross which was headed home by Michael Townsend to allow the home side to restore their lead.

Morecambe tried but could not get another goal and travelled back to Lancashire disappointed at failing to get anything away from home for the second time in a row.

Morecambe will now turn their attention to Saturday`s home match with Macclesfield Town before an action packed February with the Shrimps having games on all Saturday`s and Tuesday`s throughout the month.
