Morecambe suffered defeat at Burton Albion on Monday after coming back from 2-0 down eventually losing in the 87th minute.

The Shrimps could not have got off to a worse start when they fell behind after just 6 minutes. Adam Bolder fired the ball past Barry Roche with the first chance of the game as Burton took an early lead.

It was a fairly even game and both sides had their chances but Burton doubled their lead just before the half hour when Aaron Webster put the Brewers in control, or so they thought.

There were 2 minutes of time added on at the end of the first half and just before the whistle blew Morecambe were handed a way back into the game after Jordan Burrow bundled Jack Redshaw`s cross into the net and Morecambe trailed by just one goal at the break.

Morecambe introduced Danny Carlton into the game at half time and he wasted little time in making his mark on the game. Just 3 minutes into the half it was 2-2 after Carlton got onto the end of Izak Reid`s ball into the box and the comeback was complete.

If you were to bet on the game at that stage you would fancy your chances for a Morecambe win, however striker Justin Richards wasted a great chance to make it 3-2 when he fired into the side netting when he should have scored.

With 87 minutes on the clock Burton retook the lead. The referee awarded a dubious looking free kick on the edge of the penalty box and Chris Palmer took his shot well to give the home side an unlikely lead.

With the rain now teaming down and Morecambe looking at a defeat the Shrimps were handed a late chance to earn themselves a point when in the 93rd minute they were awarded a penalty. Top scorer Kevin Ellison stepped up but Ross Atkins dived the correct way and saved to his right as the Brewers held on for the win.

Morecambe will now try and put the Easter weekend behind them as they move on to the penultimate home game of the season against Port Vale on Saturday.
