Morecambe’s pre-season friendlies got underway with a 1-1 draw with Carnforth Rangers on Tuesday night at Quarry Park.

This was more a Shrimps XI though as it was a side mainly made up of youthful academy players.

Kyle Davis put the North Lancashire & District Premier Division champions ahead before the break but we didn’t give in and kept fighting and Jim Smith scored in the second half to ensure that the game ended in a one-one draw.

Stewart Drummond, fresh from his appointment as head of youth, was in attendance and left happy.

After the game he told the official website: ‘It was a good performance from our academy, especially in the first half where we played some really good football in a game played in the right spirit, and a draw was probably a fair result on reflection of the chances created.’
