Those thoughts, ‘sometimes you have to make tough decisions’, are what managers are paid to do with Jim Bentley admitting that this was the case with Tony Diagne.

At the end of last season the Shrimps boss decided that the defender wasn’t in his plans for the 2014/2015 season and therefore transfer-listed the 23-year-old midway through his two-year contract.

Lincoln City, who have his former Macclesfield Town boss Gary Simpson in charge, snapped him up on a two-year contract on Monday with Bentley wishing him well and conceding it was difficult to decide to let him go.

The Morecambe boss told the official website: ‘Sometimes you have to make tough decisions and that was definitely the case with Tony last season.

‘He is a great lad and we really do wish him well for the future.’

Do you think the club were right to let the defender go?
