Morecambe were the better team for the first hour at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday. Then it all went wrong: after an error by Lawrence Wilson, Mark Hughes clumsily fouled Boro`s David McAllister in the Shrimps` penalty area and Simon Walton converted from the spot. A couple of minutes later, Padraig Amond found himself one-on-one with Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Day after being played-in by the impressive Jamie Devitt but failed to hit the target. Both players were instrumental in Morecambe`s equaliser after 85 minutes, however. Devitt – returning from injury today – took a corner which was headed into the top right hand corner of Day’s net by Amond, who made no mistake this time. Stevenage Manager Graham Westley would probably be relieved that his team at least held onto a point at the end of the game but Jim Bentley for Morecambe would probably be a little disappointed: on another day, he would have returned to Lancashire with all three. The draw ensures that the Shrimps remain in eleventh position; Boro` move up to fourteenth.
