Morecambe battered Stockport county on Tuesday night at a rain soaked Globe Arena.

There were doubts if this game would even get the go ahead after torrential rain battered the pitch but the drainage system coped very well and the game kicked off on time.

The game started well for Morecambe and they played some good football and their efforts paid off after the Shrimps were awarded a penalty after just eight minutes after Jake Simpson son of Stockport manager Paul handballed inside the penalty box and was shown the red card. Phil Jevons stepped up and slotted the ball home for his first league goal of the season and Morecambe`s first of the night.

Stockport down to 10 men then had chances to get back into it but that was a close as Stockport got to scoring in the first half and on 33 minutes it was 2-0 to the home side when a Craig Stanley corner was headed in by club captain Jim Bentley. Soon after and it was 3-0 again from a Craig Stanley corner this time Phil Jevons getting his second goal of the night. You just had the feeling this was to be Morecambe`s night.

The rain cleared in the second half but the chances still came for Morecambe with Phil Jevons looking for his hat-trick. That hat-trick came on 66 minutes an excellent assist across the pitch from Mark Duffy was met by Jevons who scored a stunning chip over the Stockport keeper to claim his third goal and killed the game off.

Two minutes later it was 5-0 Scott Brown saw his shot deflect into the back off the net. The shrimps were running away with it and had it not been for the cross bar it would have been six.

Phil Jevons was awarded the man off the match but in truth it could have gone to any of the Morecambe players.

The fans left the Globe singing the teams praises and keeping this strange run of not really getting the season going until November??who knows what will happen in the rest of the season play offs anyone?!
