Morecambe FC will unvail their brand new scoreboard at the Globe Arena in memory of Shrimps fan Chris Cowan who sadly died in July.

Heysham Power Station who Chris worked for has helped to fund the new scoreboard which will be placed on the community block, which will be unvailed by Chris’s family prior to Morecambe’s home game with Lincoln City on Saturday 13th Novermber.

Speaking to Morecambe FC’s official website the Shrimps commercial director said ‘Chris was well known at Christie Park, so much so that he bought some of the Christie Park pitch as a souvenir last year.

‘So it did seem right to mark his sad loss with something at The Globe Arena.

‘We have a long-standing partnership with the power stations and during our discussions in the summer it was agreed that we would suggest to the family that we install a scoreboard in his name.

‘It seems to me that this is a fitting tribute to one of our own. I have been in close contact with Chris’ parents, Mike and Christine, and have been humbled by their strength and humility in such tragic circumstances.’

Gwen Parry-Jones station director at Heysham 1 Power Station said ‘We wanted to find a suitable memorial to Chris but we wanted to be sure his family were comfortable with the proposal, and I am very pleased that they are.’

A collection for Chris was also held across EDF Energy’s fleet of power stations, which raised £8,200 which Chris’s family will donate to the charity Help For Heroes.

This money will be presented to Arthur Rowe from the charity before the Lincoln game.
