Seventh-placed Morecambe played fifth-placed Michael Appleton`s Os at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday trying to close the disparity in their head-to-head record. Before the game, United had won five of their previous encounters, the Shrimps just two.

Jim Bentley had gone on record this week to say he felt `let down` by the Shrimps` performance a week earlier, when they lost at home to Northampton 2-4. “No-one`s lost a leg, we haven`t been relegated nor anything like that and no-one`s been killed but it was a poor day at the Office.”

It was a much better day at Oxford when – thanks to an excellent save by goalkeeper Barry Roche from Kenar Roofe`s penalty after the same player had been fouled by Shaun Beeley – Morecambe returned to Lancashire with a share of the points.

It was a game of few chances in which three yellow cards were shown to the visitors and just one to Oxford. At the end of it, the Shrimps remained in seventh place in the League Two Table. Oxford`s failure to win meant that they fell to fifth, equal on points with today`s visitors.
