Danny Carlton’s time with Morecambe has come to an end with it decided not to offer him a new deal.

Having missed most of last season with a knee injury he was invited back for pre-season with a possible deal in the offing.

Continued financial constraints have prevented this though with Jim Bentley, telling the official website, saying: ‘I’m really sad we can’t offer Danny anything. The worst part of being a manager is that you have to make some really tough decisions.

‘He’s worked really hard in the summer and looks in great shape and I would have liked to have kept him, but the money is just not there.

‘I’m really sorry to see him go because he is a big part of the club and I really do wish him well.’

It’s a shame that Carlton, with such a history with Morecambe, has to move on but what can you do!
