Stewart Drummond has been on for a new contract with Morecambe for a while now, with his change of position too.

This has not quite been completely rubberstamped until this week with it now signed off and it confirmed that the veteran has signed a new one-year playing contract with the Shrimps, which also includes an officially confirmed new role with the club too.

Drummond has also been appointed the head of youth.

At 38-years-old, Morecambe flows through his blood, the midfielder hasn’t got too long left in the game but is adamant that he is still very much focusing on a career as a player and wants to be involved in that side again this season but is also excited at the prospect of helping to bring through the next generation.

He told the official website: ‘I’m still focusing on playing but I am also looking forward to overseeing the youth set-up with the idea of bringing more talent through.’

Last season Drummond made 38-appearances, which would have been more but for a season ending toe fracture in March with that a figure he would like to get close to, if not better I’d expect.

Also confirmed this week was the news that chairman Peter McGuigan will also take on the role of chief executive.
