McIIroy to make summer changes

Although Morecambe boss Sammy McIIroy has always insisted staying in League Two was his priority this season the play-offs had looked a decent bet for most of the campaign, but these slimmest of slim hopes were all but ended following a 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury on Tuesday.

McIlroy is growing increasing frustrated with his sides inability to learn from mistakes, as they keep happening over and over as he told BBC Radio Lancashire: ‘We need to learn, and unfortunately we’re not learning.

‘I’m going to have to do something to make sure we improve and I hope everyone at the club realises what we have to do.’

The fact that his side keeps conceding soft goals, when they fail to kill off a match is as major cause for concern for him so he has admitted that he is looking to address these defensive frailties in the summer, adding: ‘We should score to kill the game off. We don’t and then concede a shocking goal at the end. This has been happening for the majority of the season.

‘We’ve been giving away soft goals no matter who I play in certain areas.

‘It’s been a great first season for us but at the end of the day that’s why we’re not in the play-offs.’
