Tom McCready’s trial with Morecambe this summer has proven successful with his agreeing a deal to join the club, albeit on non-contract terms.

McCready is of course the younger bother of former Shrimps man Chris McCready who parted company with the club this summer with Jim Bentley opting against offering him a new contract.

A trial for the 23-year-old was something agreed last season when he spent some time training with the club and turned out in some reserve team games for Stewart Drummond.

Bentley has paid tribute to him for his decision to accept a non-contract deal while he looks to convince the boss to give him a permanent deal, which he will if he continues to impress as he has so far this summer.

The boss told the official website: ‘It’s refreshing in this day and age where a young footballer who’s trying to make his way in the game is willing to sign for no wages.

‘He’s got savings so he’s quite happy to sign for nothing and live off that while he does his stuff and tries to earn a permanent contract with us.’
