Morecambe confirmed recently that the head of academy had decided that his future lay away from the Globe Arena, with him resigning.

Phil Hackney’s exit was confirmed with him resigning after almost two-years with the Shrimps.

Shrimps’ Director Mark Mace paid tribute to the job that Hackney did and wished him well for the future, telling the official website: ‘Phil has done an excellent job for the club since he joined and we wish him well for the future.

‘He has helped the club establish its Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) programme and provided a solid platform for us to build on.’

In the short-term Stewart Drummond and Neil Wainwright are taking charge of things with the academy but a new permanent appointment is being sought.

Hackney’s departure is disappointing but he leaves us in a good position and as mentioned with a ‘platform to build on’ with it important that we do.
