Morecambe have added some extra quality and experience to the squad by bringing in free agent Alan Goodall.

The former Fleetwood Town midfielder had played a key role in their promotion out of league 2 and into league 1 via the play-offs last season but this wasn’t enough for him to retain his place in their squad and he was released by the club this summer.

At first the Shrimps brought the 32-year-old in on trial but it soon became apparent that Bentley was keen to acquire the services of the midfielder and his signing was officially confirmed on Tuesday morning.

This is a signing that the boss is most pleased with and he feels he will be a ‘perfect player’ for the club, telling the official website: ‘I have known Alan for a while and he is the perfect player for us.

‘He has great experience at this level and can play in several positions in defence or midfield and he is a lad who has fitted perfectly into the squad.’

You know what I think Bentley is spot on with his assessment of Goodall and I’m sure all will look forward to seeing him this season.
