Morecambe have announced the usual end-of-term shuffling of the pack at the Globe Arena, with Manager Jim Bentley allowing eight players to leave. Padraig Amond, Mark Hughes, Andy Wright, Ryan Williams, Jack Sampson, Declan Watson, Will Bell and Marcus Marshall have thus all been released by the club. The only name among these which might have come as a surprise to Shrimps supporters was that of Padraig Amond, whose performances for the first team would have led many to believe the Irishman was worth a new contract. Perhaps just as surprisingly, Mark Hughes has become Terry Sheringham`s first signing in his new role of Manager of Stevenage.
Kevin Ellison and Andy Fleming have both agreed new one-year deals. Fleming – for whom Manager Bentley has consistently expected greater things – has the option of a second year.
Tom Barkhuizen became Big Jim`s first signing of the season after being released by Blackpool at the end of their disastrous campaign. The 21 year old signs on a two year contract and those who saw him play on loan for the Shrimps last season will be impressed by his skill and commitment to the cause even as a loanee. 26 year old Lee Molyneux has also signed from Crewe and will be remembered by Morecambe fans at least for his two goals for nemesis Accrington Stanley in their 5-1 drubbing of the Shrimps two years ago when he was on loan at the Crown Ground.
