With just a week left before the League season starts for real, Morecambe lost their third friendly game in a row: this time, against a Liverpool Under 21 team at the Globe Arena on Saturday. The hosts started brightly enough with Kevin Kelleher in the visitors` goal making a smart save from Rhys Turner after just two minutes. Kelleher also tipped Aaron McGowan`s goal-bound shot against the crossbar with another tremendous save at the start of the second half. He was beaten, however, when Kevin Ellison slipped the ball under him after being found by a pass from Aaron Wildig with 52 minutes played. Liverpool`s Jack Dunn had a glorious chance to equalise almost immediately afterwards but his shot went just over the bar. He made no mistake with ten minutes left to play however when he pounced on a loose ball in midfield and advanced on the Morecambe goal to curl a shot past reserve goalkeeper Dan Nizic from about twelve yards out. The visitors won the game in the 86th minute when Brooks Lennon scored again after the Shrimps had lost control of the ball in midfield once more and the young Liverpool team took full advantage. The visitors then scrambled efforts from Wildig and Tom Barkhuizen off their goal-line but managed to hold on to their one goal advantage until the end of the match. One potentially bright spot in an otherwise disappointing day was when Jim Bentley announced that he had signed Liverpool`s first goal scorer Jack Dunn on a six month loan. The Manager also confirmed that 21 year old Australian Dan Nizic – released by Burnley at the end of last season – had signed a two-year deal to play for the club as cover in goal for Barry Roche.
