Morecambe`s preparations for the new season continued at the Globe on Tuesday night when newly promoted premiership side Burnley paid a visit. Both teams fielded vastly different line-ups in each half on the warmest evening of 2016 so far. Friendlies usually mean exactly that but there was a bit of a melee after 82 minutes when the visitors` Lukas Jutkiewicz reacted badly to a foul and a general melee ensued. Oh dear. Anyway, the Shrimps opened the scoring when new boy Rhys Turner reacted quickest to a cross which was poorly palmed-away by Burnley`s veteran goalkeeper Paul Robinson after fifty-four minutes and hit the ball back past him into the net. But outstanding player of last season`s promotion drive – Andre Gray – equalised ten minutes later for the Clarets to make the final score 1-1. Morecambe remain unbeaten so far in their practice games: the football begins for real on August 6th at League returnees Grimsby Town.
