In light of pitch invasions by Blackpool protestors in the final Championship game of last season against Huddersfield and a pre-season friendly his summer Morecambe have announced our friendly is off.

A statement issued on the Official Website on Wednesday said ‘intelligence received’ tends to point to another protest so this game is likely to be disrupted, ultimately abandoned you think so it was mutually agreed to cancel the game, scheduled for next Tuesday.

This wasn’t wanted but was ‘reluctantly agreed’ to by both.

‘Morecambe Football Club has this evening announced that the pre-season friendly match versus Blackpool on Tuesday 28th July has been cancelled.

‘Recent intelligence received by both clubs suggests a strong possibility of the match being disrupted by protesting supporters and consequently the clubs have reluctantly agreed to the game’s cancellation.’

Obviously this is disappointing, and not something we wanted for our pre-season plans, but what can you do!

Our pre-season did kick-off with a five-nil win over Kendal Town earlier in the week with Jim Bentley fielding two different XI’s in each half.

Morecambe (first half): Roche, Beeley, Doyle, Dugdale, McGowan, Goodall, Murphy, Wildig, Devitt, Mullin, Pritchard.

Morecambe (second half): Thompson, McGowan, Edwards, Parrish, Molyneux, Bailey, Kenyon, Fleming, Ellison, Barkhuizen, Kelleher.

A first half goal from Wildig was added to by Molyneux, from the penalty spot, Kenyon, Ellison and Barkhuizen, also from the penalty spot, in the second half to seal our five-nil win.

A full report on this game can also be viewed on the Official Website.
