The league two season continued for Morecambe in midweek as they looked to build on a weekend win, which was the first of 2014.

Morecambe followed up a first win of the year on Saturday with another one at the Globe Arena when they ran out 4-1 winners over Newport County on Tuesday night.

With the pressure now easing on the Shrimps, getting the monkey off their backs of a first win of the year would have helped, Jim Bentley is looking for his side to build on this win where they showed a real ‘ruthless streak’ in front of goal in the second half.

The Shrimps boss said: ‘We played some decent stuff in the first half without reward but once we got back in the game we were ruthless which was excellent.

‘Two wins on the bounce has made a massive difference after going on a poor run of form and we are all looking forward to the next game now and hope we can build on two excellent results.

‘I really wanted us to build on the victory over Southend at the weekend and we did just that, we are in a much better position now than we were this time last week.’

Tom Naylor put Newport ahead but when he fouled Kevin Ellison just before the hour he saw red and Jamie Devitt equalised from the penalty spot. Ellison put the Shrimps ahead before Jack Redshaw came off the substitutes bench again to add another two to secure the points.
