Not only are Morecambe still without a win this year so far they’ve now got to react to ‘a good beating’.

Plymouth were an in-form side going into the league two meeting at Home Park on Saturday afternoon but Morecambe wouldn’t have expected to come away having lost 5-0.

Jim Bentley paid credit to Plymouth but knows the shortcomings of his own side and knows that they need to get back to what was being done so well earlier in the season.

The Shrimps boss said: ‘We took a good beating and it’s hard to take. Credit where credit is due Plymouth are a good side.

‘Once the first goal went in we seemed to collapse. We look nervy and disjointed and it was too easy to play against us. We didn’t do the ugly side.

‘At the start of the season we went nine games unbeaten and we were hard to play against.

Durrell Berry scored first with former Shrimper Lewis Alessandra adding the next. Curtis Nelson and Andres Gurrieri added further goals before Alessandra scored his second, and 12th of the season, at the end.

Defeats are felt by no one more than Bentley, he knows it was ‘a bad day at the office’ and it’s a difficult run the club are currently on but getting confidence back will take time.

He added: ‘No-one feels it more than me when we lose like we did.

‘It is a bad day at the office, we have had a few words and there is a lot of work to be done. It is a test of our character and I am ready for the battle ahead, we have got two big home games coming up and need to bounce back.

‘We are in poor form at the moment and we need to turn a corner and turn a corner quickly. We have got a big week of football ahead of us and the players will be in every day.

‘We need to regain our confidence because we have not become a bad side overnight.’
