Morecambe’s season continued on Tuesday night with the latest league fixture played, they remain in a little relegation trouble.

Chesterfield proved too strong for Morecambe on Tuesday night when they won 1-0 at the Proact Stadium.

Jim Bentley not only feels that Chesterfield are the best side in this league but will go up with him knowing it was always going to be a big ask of his side with them coming up ‘a little short’ in the end.

The Shrimps boss said: ‘Chesterfield are the best side in the league in my opinion and we knew we would have to be at our best.

‘It was always going to be a little bit tough but we started brightly and then they got on the front foot and it was a great bit of movement for the goal.

‘We had to weather large spells of pressure and although you always fancy yourself to get a chance, overall they were the better side. We stuck at it and the lads gave it their all but we just came up a little bit short.

Jay O’Shea’s first half goal was enough to give Chesterfield the points and takes them a step closer to league one football again next season.

Bentley felt that Chesterfield not only deserved the win but will go up this year with his best wishes and good luck.

He added: ‘We played some all right stuff at times and while it was 1-0 you could sense a bit of nervous edge in the crowd but credit to them, they deserved the win and they will go up this year in my opinion and good luck to them.’
