The latest league two fixture saw Morecambe back on home turf at the weekend as the battle to ensure another season in the football league continued.

Morecambe took on Northampton, battling against league two relegation, at the Globe Arena on Saturday with the sides sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.

A disappointing midweek defeat was suffered by Morecambe with Jim Bentley keen for a reaction, which he was happy with and feels that a point was the least that his side deserved.

The Morecambe boss said: ‘I wanted us to raise our game after the Accrington game and I certainly got a much better performance against a strong Northampton side who have a lot of experience and know how.

‘We had to stand up and be counted in poor conditions and did that. We were really unfortunate to be a goal down at half time with a bizarre own goal but we have proved time and time again that we can come from behind and we did that.

‘We scored a fantastic, team goal and could have won the game in the end and I think we fully deserved the point.’

The Shrimps went behind to Andy Wright’s own goal just before half time with Padraig Amond securing a point for Morecambe as time ticked away.
