Morecambe just continue to go from strength to strength at the moment with the unbeaten league two run extended at the weekend with the win at Bury.

The midweek Johnstone’s Paint Trophy penalty shootout defeat against Carlisle didn’t prove a setback at all with the response; that Jim Bentley wanted, given as the unbeaten run extended further with a 2-0 win at Gigg Lane gained.

Goal from Williams and Diagne, with one of the last kicks of the game, secured the win.

Bentley admits that there was a little fortune to the win but you do make your own in this game in many ways and he was left delighted with another win.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: ‘We’re happy winning any game of football, but away from home and with a clean sheet, and we creep up the table again – it’s fantastic for us.

‘I knew we’d be up against it because we haven’t got a good record here and they’ve got a good squad.

‘They started the game better and we rode our luck a little bit, but we know we’re a decent second-half side.

‘Sometimes it’s one moment of quality that gets your noses in front and the first goal is worthy of winning any game of football.’

Go back almost a couple of months now and a 3-0 defeat at Fratton Park against Portsmouth, which really could have been worse.

At that stage if you’d told many that this would be the last defeat we would’ve suffered closing in on two months later in the league two season I think some would have said you were mad!

How much longer can this run continue…
