In actual fact Jim Bentley said the Morecambe performance in the defeat on Tuesday wasn’t only shocking it was ‘absolutely shocking’ with him going as far to say, if he could, he would look to offload a number of players!

Paul Mullin’s penalty had given Morecambe the lead against Mansfield but goals from Chris Clements and Adi Yussuf in the final four-minutes saw a two-one defeat suffered.

Bentley told the BBC he viewed the performance by some as a ‘sackable performance’ and not one he could tolerate.

‘Shocking, absolutely shocking. I call that a sackable performance. There would be a few of them (the players) I would empty out right away if I had a couple of quid to bring a few players in, because they were weak and lacked character.’

Defeat leaves Morecambe in 14th, away from relegation trouble really but seven-points off the top seven so a play-off place isn’t looking too promising.

He went onto add this will hurt heading into the weekend but expects a reaction.

‘The desire of their team, and they’ve got a lot of experience compared to us, but what they have got is a lot more characters and winners. That will hurt me now for days until the weekend. That has absolutely booted me right in the stomach as that should’ve been three points.’
