The Dales and Hills of North Eastern Lancashire specifically in the shape of Rochdale and their manager Keith Hill visited the western Lancashire seaside on Saturday.

Dale have been flying high near the top of the league all season; Morecambe – despite showing a worrying recent dip in form – were still in the Play-Off positions at the start of the game.

Not much had changed by half time: although the visitors probably had the best of the game, neither goalkeeper had actually been beaten.

This was all to change rapidly during the second half.

Despite a stronger effort from the hosts initially, Rochdale took the lead after just eight minutes when Shrimps’ Captain Mark Hughes headed a Dale cross past his own goalkeeper, Barry Roche.

It got worse for Morecambe just two minutes later when the visitors’ Scott Hogan beat Roche all ends up with a shot which nestled in the top right hand corner of his net.

Morecambe huffed and puffed after that but Padraig Amond’s goal with two minutes of normal time still to play was both too little and too late.

The win consolidates Dale in the automatic promotion positions: third in the table.

Their third loss in a row in all competitions at the Globe leaves Jim Bentley’s team outside the Play-Off positions in eighth place.
