Manager Jim Bentley has apologised to the fans following Morecambe’s performance in last night’s four two first round replay against Dagenham and Redbridge.

Having taken a two nil lead inside of the opening seven minutes of the game it looked like it would be Morecambe’s night and passage through to the second round but with the visitors to the Globe restoring parity before the half time break, they went on to add two more to consign us to defeat.

A deeply disappointed manager said to the BBC at full time.

‘It’s soul destroying and I can understand the fans’ frustration. I could go as far as saying I can understand them calling for my head after that, because it was that poor.’

Dagenham now face National League South side Whitehawk in round to of this year’s competition and that was even more disappointing for the gaffer because he felt we had a way through to round three as long as we performed across both games.

That dream is over for the 29 year old though having lost to the Football League’s lowest placed side who ended a run of eight games without a win.

‘We knew where the path was with regards to round three. We had to get through tonight and then another game against a National League South side who are doing well – it would have been a tough game, but it was all set out for us. They got back to 2-1 and then after that I thought we lacked fight, lacked leadership. All I can do is apologise to the fans. What an absolute disaster.’

Hopefully a response when we face Barnet this weekend.
